Census Information Question

Jul 31, 2015 at 9:00 PM
Hello,
I am new to the FT Analyzer software,
so I have a question about using FT Analyzer 5.
Where does it get the census data from?
Should there be a Census field/column in the gedcom file?
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks,

GEDCOM has multiple different types of standard facts you can record against an individual and/or a family. A CENSus fact is one of these types. Most modern family tree programs allow you to enter CENSus records but how you do that varies from one program to another. Also since some older programs don't adhere to the GEDCOM standard and enter CENSus facts as RESIdence facts the program has an option to treat any RESIdence facts as CENSus facts.

The program will also recognise some forms of census reference and automatically add census records if you have recorded census references in your notes for an individual.

Note I've deliberately put CENS and RESI as capitals in the words CENSus and RESIdence as CENS and RESI are the "tags" used by GEDCOM to mark fact types.

Which family tree program are you using and what version number is it? That will inform my answer as to how to enter census data.
