LDS Temple Codes as Locations

Aug 24, 2013 at 10:08 AM
I suspect some folks will have data they've imported from IGI type sources which will include LDS Temple Codes as a location.

I wonder if FT Analyzer can do anything with those codes with respect to the locations tab to make them more obvious/useful/meaningful, but I'm not sure what.....

The codes are defined in Appendix C of The GEDCOM Standard Release 5.5 but I note the list is dated as correct at June 1995 so may not be hat useful.

The Temple codes are ADDITIONAL to locations and are only ever used in very specialist fact types. From the same document (which is the usual webpage I use for GEDCOM info)
LDS_INDIVIDUAL_ORDINANCE: =
  [
  n  [ BAPL | CONL ]  {1:1}
    +1 STAT <LDS_BAPTISM_DATE_STATUS>  {0:1}
    +1 DATE <DATE_LDS_ORD>  {0:1}
    +1 TEMP <TEMPLE_CODE>  {0:1}
    +1 PLAC <PLACE_LIVING_ORDINANCE>  {0:1}
    +1 <<SOURCE_CITATION>>  {0:M}
    +1 <<NOTE_STRUCTURE>>  {0:M}
  |
  n  ENDL          {1:1}
    +1 STAT <LDS_ENDOWMENT_DATE_STATUS>  {0:1}
    +1 DATE <DATE_LDS_ORD>  {0:1}
    +1 TEMP <TEMPLE_CODE>  {0:1}
    +1 PLAC <PLACE_LIVING_ORDINANCE>  {0:1}
    +1 <<SOURCE_CITATION>>  {0:M}
    +1 <<NOTE_STRUCTURE>>  {0:M}
  |
  n  SLGC          {1:1}
    +1 STAT <LDS_CHILD_SEALING_DATE_STATUS>  {0:1}
    +1 DATE <DATE_LDS_ORD>  {0:1}
    +1 TEMP <TEMPLE_CODE>  {0:1}
    +1 PLAC <PLACE_LIVING_ORDINANCE>  {0:1}
    +1 FAMC @<XREF:FAM>@  {1:1}
    +1 <<SOURCE_CITATION>>  {0:M}
    +1 <<NOTE_STRUCTURE>>  {0:M}
  ]

LDS_SPOUSE_SEALING: =
  n  SLGS          {1:1}
    +1 STAT <LDS_SPOUSE_SEALING_DATE_STATUS>  {0:1}
    +1 DATE <DATE_LDS_ORD>  {0:1}
    +1 TEMP <TEMPLE_CODE>  {0:1}
    +1 PLAC <PLACE_LIVING_ORDINANCE>  {0:1}
    +1 <<SOURCE_CITATION>>  {0:M}
    +1 <<NOTE_STRUCTURE>>  {0:M}
So as you see the only valid fact tags are BAPL, CONL, ENDL, SLGC, SLGS. Which are...BAPTISM_LDS, CONFIRMATIONLDS, ENDOWMENT, SEALING_CHILD, SEALING_PARENTS. So all fact types that are specific to LDS Church members. As such the code represents which temple the event took place at where as the place field represents a normal location field. Thus I don't think that parsing these locations will actually be relevant.

Fully accept they are some what esoteric as far as most genealogists are concerned.

On reflection, I'd like to withdraw this suggestion, primarily because both the date associated with the event and the location of the event will generally have no relationship to the individual's life span or the locations where they lived.

Sorry to have exercised grey matter unnecessarily.
